Acle Open Bowls Tournament 2012
The fourth Acle Open was held over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of January with an entry of 58 bowlers.
There was a good mix of world seeded bowlers, club bowlers and up and coming younger bowlers all competing on equal terms for the Acle Open Title.
Many local youngsters had a good day with Thomas Segolo reaching the Quarter Final and Daniel (Spike) Seabourne reaching the last 16 by beating our own world seeded Tim Stone in a match which had all of us on the edge of our seats, right up to the last bowl of the tie break.

The extremely high standard of bowling was rewarding enough for the work put into the planning, which this year was carried out by Lewis Moore match organiser, Ron Taylor, system installer and Gillian Taylor updating the web site, Ron and Gillian being club presidents.

The club camera system had seen extensive updates over the last year to improve live webcam streaming and also supply the newly installed club monitor system with better close up views of the bowling heads and on screen scoring which made it easier to follow the progress of the matches.

It was a team performance and all those who umpired, marked, stewarded and helped, deserve a slap on the back by contributing in making the day a great success. The photo shows those umpires and markers who stopped to watch, some are not in official dress as they had changed to watch the final stages.

Jill and Humphrey Saunders presented the H&J.S. trophy to the winner Wayne Phoenex from Boston IBC, with bottles of drink for the umpires and bowling cloths for the markers. Lewis was presented with a bottle of wine by the club presidents Ron & Gill who also received a bottle each from Club Secretary Denis Goodley.
Enquiries have already been made by players about next years tournament, with many wanting their names down early so they are certain to be included.
