Acle Indoor Bowls Club hosted their annual School Bowls Festival on Friday 11th June.
The Acle club coaches are busy all year undertaking six week introductory bowls courses at the six Junior Schools in the area and this Festival is a celebration at the end of the season.
The six schools involved are Acle, Fleggburgh, Freethorpe, Reedham, Lingwood and Sth.Walsham.
The schools arrived at the club at 9-15am and all matches were completed by 2-15pm.

It is also an opportunity for the club coaches to ‘spot’ the future talent (the smiling face in the middle is one of ours).
‘I was very impressed with a number of the players, and one or two could well make International standard if they take up the sport in earnest, but all the children were a credit to their schools,’ said Denis Goodley, Club Manager who is also a Director of the English Indoor Bowls Association and consequently always on the look out for future England Under 18 players.

A close call, but Alex was on hand to help decide the winning shot

New friendships were made
Decisions made

Tension Mounted
Eventually South Walsham held on to the winners trophy, having won it last year, with runners up spot going to Lingwood. Fleggburgh receiving the ‘Sporting Award’.
Photos show joint Festival Organisers, Karen, the Schools Sports Co-ordinator with Denis Goodley, club manager and a Director of the English Indoor Bowls Association.

These lads from Fleggburgh won the sportsmanship award, starting with a smile and ending with one.

Runners up were Lingwood

Winners of the Festival were South Walsham
With Acle Indoor Bowls coaches visiting the six local schools in the area, many of those taking part had some tuition, but enthusiasm made the day a great success.
Old man’s sport, not likely !!!
Junior Club Coaching starts again in September, Fridays between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. Acle Indoor Bowls coaches look forward to seeing some new smiling faces.
